The committee with Andy as social secretary organise a number of events per year. We avoid bank holidays as people are away and we usually start the year with a Spring BBQ. and finish on the day we shut the shop for the Christmas period, with mince pies, mulled wine and our Christmas raffle.
The Royal wedding and Jubilee were celebrated with a curry night. The curries were given a 'Royal' title and were washed down with homemade blackcurrant wine, Steve's ginger beer (alcoholic element) and Andy's homemade parsnip wine.‘Allotmenteers’ also brought their homemade fruit and vegetable wines along with cakes and puddings to share.
This year for the first time we have put out a donation box at events and the money raised goes towards our current project to benefit ‘allotmenteers’. (More information can be found on the 'latest news' page).
Our highpoint of the year has to be our Summer Show. We held the first one in August 2011 It was opened by the then Deputy Lord Mayor and it was a real success.
We do not have the judging expertise (or the money to buy in experts) to judge appearance, so our categories are 'longest' and 'heaviest' with fun categories for children for tallest sunflower in situ: scarecrow and potato head. We hope this year to have a Tombola along with our wine tasting, cake tasting and BBQ
